About Photo Ponie

I've created Photo Ponie and the concept to allow people to enjoy photography and maybe make some fun money. As of now, it's a very controlled and limited service. If it takes off and demand grows, I will open it to more participants.

What is it?
The best way I can describe what I've invented is a "Photo Gallery Lottery". People will submit photos to a limited "pool" of participants. Submitters will pay $5.00 (US) per photo entry during the accepted submission time. The submitted photos will then be unbiasedly judged. The winner will be announced and awarded 70% of that pools entry fees (After PayPals processing fee 2.9% + $0.30).

Cliffsnotes Version:
Submit a photo in a pool that only allows 10 submissions at $5.00 (US) a submission. Photos will be judged on TBD date. The winning photo will be awarded 70% of the total submission fees (After PayPals processing fee 2.9% + $0.30).

Why the name Photo Ponie?
My idea needed a name. While I look at this concept as sort of a "Photo Lottery", I didn't want the term gambling or betting associated with it. That's not what I'm going for. While I'm sure some will think that my concept is indeed that, I look at it much differently. For me, I see it as a way for people to stand behind their work with a 1/15 odds of making some extra money. It's sort of like placing a bet on themself to win a race. This thought brought to light conversations I've had with friends this past week about the Super Bowl. They would ask who I want to win the game. My response would be, "With my Packers not in it, I don't have a horse in the race so it really doesn't matter." This, in a round about way got me thinking of the term "pony up" or "ante up". The spelling of pony was too "soft" sounding for me, but the ponie version is different and doesn't immediately bring to mind gambling. Thus...Photo Ponie is born!
